Say Something Campaign

Dear Kinoshita Families,

My name is Julie Chutuk and I am honored to be the School Counselor here at Kinoshita Elementary School. Although school will look much different this year, I wanted to remind you that I am still here as a support during this challenging time. As a CUSD counselor, I am committed to the academic, social/emotional, and career growth of all of my students. Through this commitment, I provide a variety of services to students, parents, and families in order to support that growth. These services include:

  • Short-term Individual counseling
  • Short-term Group counseling
  • Second-Step Lessons (Social Emotional Learning)
  • Consultation
  • Conflict mediation
  • Referrals and resources

If a student is referred for counseling, I will send home a permission slip for either individual or group counseling. I aim to work closely with parents whose child is receiving counseling support while also respecting a student’s confidentiality. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about counseling services.

Conversations between the student and the counselor are confidential unless the student shares that they are danger, someone else is in danger or they are in danger of harming someone else.

CUSD School Counseling Program

The School Counseling Program strives to provide opportunities so that every student will acquire the social-emotional, academic, and career skills to reach their fullest educational potential and successfully manage their lives as healthy, responsible, competent and productive citizens who respect themselves and others.

The mission of CUSD School Counselors is to provide a comprehensive counseling program that supports the whole child. School Counselors will focus on the needs, interests, and issues related to social-emotional, academic, and college/career development of all students through a multi-tiered system of support. School Counselors will advocate, collaborate and facilitate actions that promote a positive school climate, provide an opportunity for all students to access their education and achieve personal and academic success to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world.

As a School Counselor, I believe that ALL students matter. Students should feel supported, safe, and be a part of a positive learning environment. ALL students are capable of reaching their highest potential, emotionally and academically!

second step curriculum

Second Step is our schoolwide Social Emotional Learning Curriculum that is delivered to students by grade level. Each grade level receives 7 lessons within the categories of Empathy, Skills for Learning, Emotion Management, and Problem Solving. Students also receive Home Links after each lesson to help involved parents in social-emotional learning as well.

Home Links are simple, fun activities that encourage interaction between students and their adult family members, caregivers, or other important adults. The activities give students a chance to practice Second Step skills outside of school and help families learn about the skills so they can use them at home. Below you can find links to all Home Links in English and Spanish

If you would like your child to be seen by the counselor you may either call me, email the counselor directly or use the Parent Guardian Referral button located below.
